Event Description

All bird lovers will enjoy the Birds of Prey class presented by the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program.

The class is held on the first three Saturdays of November. RMRP Executive Director Judy Scherpelz has taught the class for 20 years. “I present the class with explanations to match all interest levels,” Scherpelz said. “The more you know about birds and their environment, the more enjoyment you will get from watching them in their natural surroundings.”

Session One: November 7th - Why Birds Are Cool – Examines bird anatomy and physiology, and why they do what they do. Courtship, breeding, population trends, migration, and environmental issues will be discussed.

Session Two: November 14th – Is That A Falcon Or A Hawk? – Explores individual species habitats and identification of hawks (buteos and accipiters), falcons, harriers, eagles, and owls. Photographs and live raptors will help participants identify Colorado’s raptors.

Session Three: November 21st – Wow! I Thought I Saw An Eagle! – Features a raptor-watching field trip covering a variety of nesting habitats throughout northern Colorado. Trip focuses on how and where to observe birds of prey and field identification of birds in local areas.

Cost: $60 per class, $160 for all three classes. Fees help RMRP save lives through rehabilitation and change lives through environmental education.

Location: Rocky Mountain Raptor Program – 720B East Vine Drive, Fort Collins, Colorado

When: November 7, 14, and 21, 9am to 5pm.
