Colorado Birder

Diane and I traveled over to the Fruitgrowers Reservoir just outside of Eckert for the Sandhill crane migration, and into Eckert for the birding programs sponsored and hosted by the Surface Creek Winery and Gallery.

We observed about a hundred cranes on Saturday morning, and missed their "launch" to attend the programs in town. On Saturday late afternoon more than a thousand cranes descended (parachute-like) into the reservoir. Quite a site. Then on Sunday we had the great good fortune to observe their "launch" and spiral ascent into blue abyss in the stratosphere.

And as an added bonus, a local landowner, Al Horn, allowed us access to three of his gigantic cottonwoods and we both made a lift-list observation of a Lewis Woodpecker.

I do have some photos, which I will post over on My Page.
