I have a little male pine siskin that visits my feeder fairly regularly (along with about 25 or so of his buddies). What I noticed about this one is that he seems rather raggedy (hence the nickname, Scruffy) and seems to be missing most or all of the feathers around his neck. At first I thought he'd been attacked by something and I was afraid he wasn't going to make it, but he is normal in every way but his appearance.
Now I'm beginning to wonder if he's just molting. None of the other birds that I see look like this at all. It's still winter here in Breckenridge and it seemed an odd time to molt. Any thoughts? If I can get a photo of him, I will post it.
