Colorado Birder

We have a pair of Eurasian Collared-Doves hanging out around our house. I was excited until this morning when I read that they are expected to be the next "Starling" of the US. Dang.

I have to admit I like the Mourning Doves call better. The Collared-Dove is a bit scratchy and fast. And sometimes, when the fly overhead, they make the strangest call.

Also, I was walking the Golden around the neighborhood, and decided to take my binoculars with me. At the end of 41st I spied 3 large "things" in a tree. They looked to be trash bags, but my trusty binoculars showed me that they were actually Turkey Vultures! I really got a kick out of seeing 3 T.V.'s hanging out in our neighborhood. It was a cold morning, and it looked as if they were storing up their energy for another day of migration.

What a sight :)

I've seen a Eurasian Collared Dove on my walks along Carr St. toward Ralston Creek in Arvada. I've seen one three Sundays runing, probably the same bird.

We have (at least) a pair of Eurasian Collared Doves feeding in our neighborhood. Are they crowding out the native Mourning Doves?

I'm not sure, Jon. But the pair we had early in the spring is still hanging around. They like sitting on the light post in our front yard, and on the telephone post in the back. I suppose they've tagged out house as a safe area.

We haven't noticed an increase in the population, but if we see more than just the pair hanging around, I'll post it.

We have a large flock of Eurasians and Mournings in our yard that get along quite well. Gary
