Dark Intermediate Morph RTH

Nice shot.  What makes it an 'intermediate'? Is a 'full' all dark and very dark?

Western red-tails range from light to dark on a continuum and this bird could probably be considered dark or dark-intermediate.  There is enough rufous that I called her a dark-intermediate.  I go with Wheeler's "Raptors of Western North America" to make the call.
