First of all, I'd like to invite anybody who can make it down to La Veta (~3 hrs south of Denver) on June 14th for our AVAS Bird Walk. You can
read details here.
The folks with AVAS are great...as are most birders, huh? I've never met a nicer bunch of people! A couple of us who feed birds will open up our yards to be included on the hike...yours truly included. It should be fun!
I can say that, having lived off-grid just about 4 miles from the 400 acres we plan to visit, at the old La Veta Pass (9000') for about 3 years...the area is spectacular. What an opportunity to see what Southern Colorado has to offer! You can find an
interactive map of the area here.
Secondly, I'd like to mention a horrible article I read in the recent Audubon magazine. I've heard of this before (saw
something on YouTube about it), but this author goes into much more detail; you can read about it at my blog:
Rural Chatter. It's pretty shocking and involves the wanton, and indiscriminant, killing of Raptors. Ugg!
Not to worry, after you send your letter (!), there are a couple really cute vid clips that follow. They'll take the nasty taste out of your mouth and put a smile on your face! Enjoy...
I look forward to meeting anybody who can make the hike. Oh, and I just discovered you can read 'reviews' of previous hikes with AVAS, including the last two to La Veta on their site,
here (it's interactive; click the year).
