Colorado Birder

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Leucistic Golden Eagle found down here in SoCo a couple weeks ago. Did you guys hear about it? I posted the story on my blog...with quotes, links and photos from the papers...as well as an update a day or so later.

It's a beautiful, but very sick young bird which may make a complete recovery. If I can get up to Pueblo in a couple months, maybe I can get some pictures of my own...I'm very interested to follow up again.

The bird is quite pale, has a bad case of lice which have chewed his feathers so badly he could not fly; and he has an older shoulder injury which should heal nicely, I read. He was walking along a fence when ranchers found him; unable to fly, hunt or feed...he's quite skinny.

But the story looks like it will have a happy ending; the bird is eating, bathing and getting used to his new surroundings. If all goes well, he will be released back where he was found; healthier and able to take care of himself. Lovely!
