Ya know...I used to live at the edge of the San Isabel Nat'l Forest...at 9000'; it is in the soutern end of the Rocky's. That was the first time I saw the cranes fly over! Birds often use mountain ranges or rivers as a 'pathway' for migration. So ya never know! Maps show them all across Colorado...
Back to chasing off the ravens. Seems sort of boring compared to what you guys are seeing. I guess there's no chance the cranes will fly over Summit County on their way to NM. ;-)

We had thousands half-mile from our house last Fall roosting in cornfields for evening. Two falls ago I found 10,000 (deemed "armada") in fields near Weld CR 124. Gary
I saw about 50 headed for the San Luis Valley and ultimately NM, I suppose. I agree...it's way cool to hear them; they remind me a bit of chickens the way they chatter while flying. They fly so high, though...I doubt I'd get a good photo if I saw them again.
