I have an uncle, Bill Gaines - he currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia, but we were both born in Red River County, Texas - Clarksville. My Grandmother, Mary Limbock, married Raymond Gaines (both in heaven now) and had Uncle Bill, mother's half-brother. I know we are not "blood" so to speak, but I wouldn't trade my Papa Raymond Gaines for nothing! And, I have cousins that are half-blood cousins, and they are Gaines. Hope this isn't confusing. Steve Gaines and Kim Gaines (my 2 cousins) live in San Antonio, Texas. There are more Gaines' around - but would have to find out from Uncle Bill where they are. I know some are still in Red River County.
Thats very common here in Puerto Rico... The king bird is called Pitirre and the red Tail Hawk - Guaraguao. There's a say: Cada Guaraguao tiene su pitirre. Every Red Tail Hawk has his king bird.
Pat—Whilst birding with Rich Stallcup in Yosemite, I witnessed a Western Kingbird riding piggy-back upon a Common Raven for the time it took the Raven to flee the Kingbird's nest site and cross the Merced River. Kingbird hammered back of Raven's head the distance.
Saw your "Bareback" picture on the internet, man o man, you are famous! Sent the link to my better half and she wants to know what you used to take that picture....well actually she's dejected that she can't afford a rig like you must have been using, so _I_ wanna know so I can drop a hint to Santa, iffen ya know what I mean.....

Nice shots of the Grouse, (both species). Thanks for pointing the Molloy's and I in the direction of the owlettes. As I feared your glass definitely caused a touch of envy, even shooting against the light. Can't wait to try to catch that scene again in the early morning hours. Good to meet you.
Pat, we were reading that before they fledge, they "branch", walking around just outside the nest. Have you observed this? Do you have a guess on when these guys will fledge?
Hi Pat! I still haven't uploaded my shots from last weekend ~ I plan to get on that, posting my birds here and also on flickr... It was my first week back at work so I was swamped, of course. :) Great to meet you, too. I actually found that shot of the Kingbird attacking the Hawk ~ I had seen it when you shot it 'cuz my dad sent it to me ~ super cool. ~Jen
