Do you know about the United Status Nightjar Survey Network? This Network is organized by the Center for Conservation Biology, Dept of Biology at William and Mary College. It is a Citizen Science project (similar to Project Feederwatch and CoCoRaHS). The public is invited to participate in the collection of prevalence data on nightjars.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about nightjars and how to find them, as well as contribute important data that will help in their conservation.
To participate, please go to the website listed. The observation window for us in Colorado is May 31 to June 15, so there is only a week left in which to collect data. You will need to sign up, either for an already established route or make your own and submit it.
I have not yet done my survey for this year and would welcome your company if you would like to join me. My survey route is 10 miles of Harmony Rd (Fort Collins), from Timberline to Horsetooth Heights. Contact me(via Colorado Birder if you are interested. I'll be conducting the survey on the first night this week that it is not cloudy and windy (requirements).
