Yesterday's bear must have known we put our garbage out on Friday morning's. It ambled down from the woods making a beeline for the cans in our cul de sac. He pulled one over and decided he didn't smell anything he liked. He then pulled over a second, gently lifted the lid and started scrounging around. I walked as close to him as I dared trying to shoo him away. He pulled one sack of garbage out ot the can and moved up a hillside about 20 yards away from me, sat down and began his feast. 15 minutes or so later he ambled back into the woods.

This seems to be our season for frequent bear visits. Since Woodland Park is surrounded by Pike National Forest, the black bears have a lot of space to roam. This year we've had visits practically every day from one of the 4 bears in our area. They've been on our deck and in many of our neighbors yards. I take all of my feeders in every night. This isn't a complaint about the bears, on the contrary we enjoy seeing them. We don't encourage their visits by feeding them, but enjoy them just the same when they do appear. They have never been aggressive.

After having vacationed in Colorado for many years, my wife and I retired in Woodland Park 4 years ago, moving from the Pacific Northwest. Birding and photography are my two favorite hobbies and this area provides lots of activity in both areas of interest. Gary has created a great website.
