(One of these days, I'll pay attention to WHERE I'm posting...I just found this on my own 'comment wall'! LOL):

Well, dang...they're smart, aren't they? I'm with you...and put out garbage the morning of pickup; but have never seen the bears make rounds before the truck arrives. Too funny, really. Gee, be careful with that shooing; they move astounding fast when they decide to. Shockingly fast, even!!!

I wonder if that ammonia trick works...where one leaves ammonia-soaked paper-towels in and on garbage cans? I've never had to try it. I have a HUGE dog, an LGD...who can turn a bear out of a meadow all by himself. Double-tagged bear, at that. He's a good dog, but he's almost as hard on the magpies (don't tell Bob!!! LOL) 'cuz they mess with the occasional marrow-bones I give him.

Yeahhhhhhhhhh!!! Thank you for your attitude...and protection...of the bears, Gordon. People fail to keep in mind we TEACH bears to get aggressive in their search for food by putting it (feeders, garbage, dirty grills) where they are can find it. I had a bear remove a window of the cabin I bought to get to a bag of cat food the previous owner left there. They will remove siding to get to dirty dishes, if they're hungry enough. The only way to keep bears safe is not to 'bait' them. Obviously you know this; so thank you. Before I learned otherwise, I left hummingbird feeders out...and found them with big teeth-marks; drained dry! One complaint gets a bear a tagged ear, two gets another tag and removal...but three complaints gets the bear a death sentence; officials will euthanize it. I'm not sure people realize that.

So...Thanks again for enjoying the wildness where you live, and protecting the wild creatures there.

And thanks, too, for your fabulous photos! Stunning...

Hi Gordon, the black bears here in Colorado Springs are wandering around neighborhoods up against the mountains. You might have seen the famous Circuit City bear? We had a fox in our backyard the other day. We've also seen some birds pass through that we hadn't seen in a while such as an American Kestrel and not long ago about 4 Turkey Vultures.

Thanks for the message! I am enjoying this website. I love the black bear photo. Was that taken in Woodland Park? You've got a great backyard there for bird watching.
